Course Description:
The Pilates Chair module trains students in a variety of exercises, using a split-pedal and a single-pedal Pilates Chair, as well as props and aids. It teaches them to design safe and balanced exercise routines that target all the muscle groups. Modifications and variations are taught for each exercise so that appropriate routines can be created for clients at all levels of ability.
At the end of the course, students will be able to develop effective and safe Chair routines in both a class setting and a personal training session. They will also know how to incorporate props and aids to promote pelvic and scapular stability.
Requirements for Pilates Chair Module:
- Demonstrate knowledge of proper use and maintenance of Pilates Chair
- Demonstrate ability to use props and aids to safely modify and enhance Chair exercises
- Design and execute a balanced one-hour lesson plan for the Pilates Chair incorporating all muscle groups and accounting for any needed modifications as assigned
- Complete required hours
- Pass practical exam
- Write essay detailing how a client can be trained using the Chair, props and aids to achieve a specific goal (to be submitted after all hours have been completed and after practical exam has received a passing grade)
Prerequisites:
- Successful completion of Pilates Mat 1 and 2 modules and Introduction to Pilates Apparatus
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
- Proof of healthcare provider insurance for fitness instructors
